Behavior & safety

Discipline policy

We use a positive approach to discipline:

  • Communicate using positive statements, on the child’s level
  • Talk in a calm, quiet manner
  • Explain unacceptable behavior
  • Help children talk out problems and find solutions
  • Listen and respect each child’s needs, desires, and feelings

We never use corporal punishment

  • No spanking, hitting, slapping, grabbing, or yelling — ever
  • No threatening or name-calling
  • Food or play is never withheld as punishment or used as a reward
  • No shaming or embarrassing a child in front of others

Parents are called after 3 instances of concerning behavior; a conference is scheduled after 4.

Smoking & vaping

No smoking or vaping is permitted in or around the facility at any time.

Volunteer screening

  • All volunteers, including parents, must submit a signed statement disclosing any criminal record or sex-offender listing
  • All volunteers complete a full background check one week before the event
